A 2017 profile of Kenwood Park was aptly titled "Kenwood Park Again Teems with Young Families" as many families do seek out the neighborhood for its proximity to some of the area's top public and private institutions. Walt Whitman High School, the top high school in the area and ranked third overall in all of Maryland by U.S. News & World Report, is located in the neighborhood and Thomas W. Pyle Middle School as well as the well regarded Landon School, a private preparatory school for boys lie just beyond the neighborhood's borders. The neighborhood is also known for its array of clubs- including a garden club, book club, bridge club and even a dog walking club- and organized activities, such as its 4th of July Celebration, block parties, and its Fall Festival and Potluck.
Kenwood Park emerged as a neighborhood in 1954 with the construction of mostly ramblers and ranch houses. The neighborhood of 640 homes was completed around 1970. Many of these original homes have been torn down and replaced with newer construction homes better suited to modern families as the neighborhood turned over from its original owners. The neighborhoods location between the commuting corridors of River Road and Bradley Boulevard while roughly equidistant to the Downtown Bethesda and the Friendship Heights Metro make it a convenient spot for commuters to either area. Interestingly, the neighborhood originally was planted with cherry trees but they selected a different species of trees with a far shorter lifespan than the iconic cherry blossoms of neighboring Kenwood. While most of the original trees are no longer in existence, some neighbors have chosen to replant these gorgeous double blossom Kwanzan cherry trees.
The neighborhood contains a mix of original homes- mostly ranch, ramblers and split level homes built in the 1950's and 1960's as well a significant proportion of significantly larger newer construction homes built since 2000 in Craftsman, Colonial and Modern Farmhouse styles.
